Our Services

Physiotherapy

physiotherapy1Physiotherapy helps you to move without pain.

Physiotherapists treat disorders of movement where muscles, tissues, nerves, bones and joints are affected. These disorders may be caused by injury, disease or surgery.

Our objective is to help you achieve maximum physical function and mobility so you can get back to sport, work and everyday activities as soon as possible. Early treatment means you recover faster and more completely with fewer recurrences.

We use assessments, manual hands-on techniques, soft tissue massage, exercise prescription and electrotherapy machines to facilitate your recovery and promote good physical health and well-being.

At Physionique, we treat sports injuries, neck and back pain, shoulder, knee and other joint conditions, strains and sprains. We also help with rehabilitation after orthopaedic surgery such as ACL reconstruction, tendon repairs and back surgery.

Sports Therapy

At Physionique, we welcome recreational, amateur and professional sportspeople of all kinds.  We have treated runners, golfers, triathletes, cyclists, cricket, tennis, football and rugby players, gymnasts, dancers, ice and field hockey players, swimmers, skaters and even an elephant polo player!

Each sport places stresses and strains on particular areas of the body.  We are equipped and trained to treat most sports injuries that affect the musculoskeletal system of the body.  Rehabilitation after orthopaedic surgery to repair torn ligaments, tendons and fractured bones is an important function of physiotherapy.

Our approach to sports injury management involves:

Step 1 -  The Acute phase

Protect the injured part, reduce swelling, facilitate healing, gentle movement and manual techniques where indicated, teach walking with aids if needed.

Step 2 -  The Subacute phase

Reduce swelling, facilitate healing, stretch, strengthen, mobilize and move within limits, prevent scar tissue formation, start sport-specific activities

Step 3 -  The Chronic phase

Scar tissue management, maximize full range of motion, flexibility, stability, strength, endurance and power, progress sport-specific exercises, address contributing factors and prevention

Sports & Remedial Massage Therapy

At Physionique, we offer a variety of massage therapies that you can choose from, namely:

  • Swedish Massage
  • Deep Tissue Massage (Sports Massage, Trigger Point Therapy and Myofascial Release Therapy)
  • Aromatherapy
  • Remedial Massage

SWEDISH MASSAGE

This form of massage was invented by a Swedish physiotherapist named Per Henrik Ling (1776-1839). Through his work, Swedish Massage has become the basis of all forms of modern massage techniques today. Swedish Massage comprises techniques like effleurage, friction, petrissage and tapotement. This form of treatment aids in blood circulation, lymph drainage and the transport of nutrients to the muscles and tissues of the body. The resulting effects are invigorating relaxation!

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE

As the name suggests, Deep Tissue Massage is a general term to include techniques that employ deep and firm strokes to target muscles and connective tissue called fascia. Deep Tissue Massage utilizes many similar techniques used in Swedish Massage, but the pressure is deeper and more intense. This kind of massage is focused and targeted at chronic knots, tightness and tension in the muscles. Some examples of Deep Tissue Massage would include:

a) Sports Massage
This is effective before, during and after athletic events, either to prepare for peak performance, or to restore the athlete to full recovery after the event. Sports Massage works deep to eliminate lactic acid buildup, break up adhesions and minimize chronic scar tissue. It also lengthens muscles which help restore range of motion, flexibility and greater elasticity of muscle fibers - all contributing to the prevention of future injuries.

b) Trigger Point Therapy
This is another form of Deep Tissue Massage that targets tender and painful nodules or knots in muscles that refer pain to another part of the surrounding musculature. Deep, direct pressure is applied to these painful trigger points until they "release" and soften. Trigger Point Therapy is helpful for anyone with chronic pain who is restricted in range of motion by the presence of trigger points that shorten and stiffen muscles.

c) Myofascial Release Therapy
The word "myofascial" is made up of 2 words - "myo", meaning muscle tissue and "fascia", meaning connective tissue. The human body is made up of an endless structure of connective tissue under the skin that is dense and woven, much like a spider's web. It is this system that keeps and holds the body together. Myofascial Release Therapy seeks to release deep-seated tension and pain in the fascia, which when released, allows greater freedom of movement.

AROMATHERAPY

This is the ancient art and science of using the essential oils of plants, herbs, fruits, bark and spices to treat various conditions in the human body. Used in this manner, essential oils function as powerful, natural medicines. For instance, when the essential oils of Eucalyptus, Peppermint and Ginger are blended together, their synergistic effect is used in the treatment of over-exercised, painful and strained muscles.

REMEDIAL MASSAGE

"Remedial" comes from the word "remedy". The quest of the skilled practitioner of this modality is to seek for a remedy, utilizing any or a combination of all the above modalities to treat a dysfunction or imbalance in any of the soft tissues of the body.

Podiatry

A podiatrist is a foot specialist who diagnoses, treats and prevents conditions affecting the foot, ankle and lower leg. At Physionique, we specialize in 2 main types of podiatry:

Biomechanical Podiatry

We assess and treat conditions caused by flat or pronated (rolled in) feet, high arches, leg length discrepancy, and children’s walking problems.

Bunions, heel pain, shin splints, knee pain and even back pain can be caused by poor foot mechanics. Treatment involves orthotic prescription (inserts) and advice on correct footwear.

Clinical Podiatry

We assess and treat conditions affecting the toenails, skin, circulation and nerves of the feet. Examples are corns, calluses, fungus, warts and diabetic foot complications.

Pilates & FitBall

We offer an innovative system of Pilates and Fitball exercises to transform the way your body looks, feels and performs.

Pilates and Fitball sessions are offered for individuals and groups. The exercises are graded according to level of difficulty. We can customize classes for your specific needs e.g. tri-athletes, footballers, golfers, back pain sufferers.

Pilates and Fitball exercises focus on developing good core stability and muscle control for people with and without back pain. A strong core, referring to the deep abdominal and back muscles, ensures a well-supported spine. It allows for better quality movement and reduced injury patterns.

Please call us at 67340245 to book a session.

Golf Therapy

At Physionique, we specialize in 2 aspects of Golf Therapy:

Treatment of Golf Injuries

We assess your golf game from a physiotherapist's standpoint. Back pain, tennis and golfer's elbow, shoulder and wrist pain, and muscle strains are some of the common golf injuries we treat. With the proper tools and know-how, we perform a biomechanical analysis of your golf swing to determine the relationship of your swing pattern to your injury. This together with the golf injury rehabilitation program is designed to get you back on the course, pain-free.

GOLFit

Your game will be sure to improve in one area or another. Our golf performance program aims to give you better alignment, improved body turn, muscle control and power to enhance your game. It consists of a biomechanical analysis of your golf swing and physical assessment followed by a program to address your particular needs. The program combines specialized massage and hands-on techniques with golf-specific exercises.
