Sacro-iliac Joint Dysfunction

Joint pain in the pelvic region is normally localized to the sacro-iliac joint. The pain may refer to the buttock and sometimes down the thigh. The sacro-iliac joints are located slightly lower than the small of the back on either side of the triangular tail bone (sacrum).

A shifting of the pelvic bones from a fall onto the buttocks, an accident or twisting force will inevitably put stress and strain on this joint. This can also happen during pregnancy when the ligaments are relaxed from hormones. The pelvic bone on one side can shift up or down, rotate forward or backward and the tail bone can also rotate out of place, causing asymmetry and pain to the sacro-iliac joint. Specialized manual hands-on techniques called Muscle Energy Techniques (MET) provide pain relief using gentle muscle contractions to guide the bones back into place, into a symmetrical alignment.

Incontinence

Incontinence is when urine leaks involuntarily. In many cases, such as after childbirth, the pelvic floor muscles that support the bladder, urinary tract and sphincter, are weak. Pelvic floor exercises, muscle stimulation and special weights can train this muscle to better control urine flow.
